Through my years of working with people suffering from eating disorders (and their health providers), I have heard time and time again how a doctor or other medical provider said or did something that made their eating disorder worse.
Phrases like, "Your BMI is normal," can be extremely triggering to a restrictive eater who hears: "you are not thin enough yet." Even seeing their weight on a scale or talking about diet can be tricky if not approached in the right manner. I am here to help you navigate how to talk to ANY patient that walks in your door, so that you are cognizant of speaking in a language that is helpful to any person - disorder or not. Additionally, I have pulled together lots of evidence-based medical research to make YOU more confident and competent when addressing their physical needs. |

My B.S. of Nutrition-Dietetics is from the University of St. Joseph, in Connecticut. My B.S. of Nutrition-Dietetics is from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, where I also minored in Leadership. My Dietetic Internship (similar to a medical residency) was with California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo, which brought me out to the golden state where I now live with my R.N. husband and two dogs. I teach nutrition courses at a local college, write, and see clients with eating disorders in private counseling & group sessions. Some of my favorite things are:
musical theatre (yes, I'm a theatre geek), NYC, reading, art, running, dance, and scones with coffee. Learn more about me on linked-in or my website: www.NotYourAverageNutritionist.com/ Elizabeth Parker, MS, RD Commission on Dietetic Registration# 1027240 |
